Default horsepower

Hello Everyone! I'm Lance and I just introduced myself in the new members forum. I'm considering purchasing a 1996 Geo Tracker and am looking for some expertise from you guys about modifications. I know that the Tracker (1.6L) came out with 95 horsepower. Any ideas as to how much horsepower and/or torque can be gained from this engine? And how much can be gained with or without changing internal engine parts? Thanks!

The internals are good for about 200 HP. The weakest link being the rods. I've run a 30 shot of nitrous on mine with no problems and planning on running a 50 shot soon.

hehehe, doesnt NOX change the internal parts?
I have 10 friends all did just that, .

how much money you got? 100,300,3000?

what do you want , lowend power, wide band or just high end.
really depend on what you use it for,
off road speed, or rock crawling or dual sport.
must you be smog legal ( the most important of all questions , really)

the best gain with least bucks
1- throw out rear seat. roof rack
2 - carpets?
3- passenger seat.
4-power pulleys.
if you drive over 5000 RPM ,you might get a tad more power with a real cold air setup (not silly engine bay kind) but the real external induction.
but many show a drop in power (real dyno) when ever you force air into
a MAF valve (like yours). It wigs out.

playing with the exhause for many kills low end torque and moves it to the other end. of the RPM band.
so again, where are you going?

if you want to see what really works and what doesnt,

A gutted interrior does make a differance, the rear seat wieghts a whopping 60lbs. My manual 4x4 4 door sidekick weights 2550lbs with 1/2 tank of fuel and the MAF is a hotwire stlye so theres no valve to speak of and as long as turbulace is kept low its not a big problem.

Thanks for the replies! Just a few answers to your questions. I'm wanting to put a lift on it with 30 or 31" tires. I'm really looking for more of a dual sport. Something that I can take off road from time to time, but still holds its own in city traffic. I definately don't want a rock crawler, but don't want it for speed either. Something more in the mid range power.

Yes, it does need to pass emissions test.

Money isn't a problem, but reasonably, I don't want to put $3-4K into a $2,000 vehicle.

Also, are there any aftermarket ecm upgrades available?

Thanks!
