Hi all!
I'm new to the forum, and have been lurking around for a bit. Looks like a really good forum.
I have a question thats been haunting me for a while. First I'll tell ya a bit about what I'm working on.
Its an 87 sami with a 90 tracker motor swapped in. I am using the tracker EFI, and wiring. It runs really great, and I get 25 mpg with 33's. On to my question: When I first start it up, (first start of day) It will jump to 1400, then immediately jump to about 2200 rpm. Not a good thing on these cooler mornings that are coming on now. It will hold it till the engine warms up to about 1/4 way on the temp guage, then the idle drops to about 1000, and it runs cherry. If it gets cool enough during the day, it will repeat the same thing. If its still warm, it fires up jumps to about 1400, than settles right in at about 1000. I've watched everything mechanical on it when it idles down, and nothing moves, which leads me to believe its something with the brain of the outfit. When it was still in the tracker it would do the same thing, I thought I would just fix it once it made it to the sami. Just a bit more background. I rebuilt it completely bored .20 thousanths, and the block and head were shaved for a combined total of 35 thousanths. ( hindsight 20/20 shouldn't have done this...now searching for adjustable cam sprocket). Everything that has to do with the ignition is new. cap, rotor, plugs, wires etc. The timing is correct, and after it warms up it runs awesome. Sorry for the novel, but I thought it would help to properly diagnose. One more thing right before I pulled it, the cel was flashing a 12. I havn't yet hooked it up yet in the sami.
Thanks a ton in advance for the help, I would love to get this sorted out soon
I hope I don't scare to many off with the novel....lol
