don't panic..it's auto set as a reminder..it comes on 50k 80k and i think 110k..theres a switch to reset it, mine is next to front drivers speaker.
Yeah but changing the timing belt if you haven't would be a good idea.

Are you guy's sure about that? My engine light has never come on as a reminder as far as I can remember in the last 320000 KM.

i guess the USA EPA hasnt taken over Alberta yet.
On many old cars , they had a silly milage device , mandated by the frackn EPA.
it is either a timer or a counter connected to the Speedo cable.
the purpose is to make you ( hah) go in and get a new oxygen sensor and or a new CAT.
todays newer OBD2 systems , actually only flip on the lamp when something is truely wrong.
even a loose gas cap.

first reset the 50k timer ,then see if lamp is still lit.
(the CEL or Mil lamp "Check engine lamp")
if it is lite ,then you need to jump the diag plug to have it spit out the codes.

if you get a non 12 code your car needs help.

Knowing if your car is NON USA or not is very important as there are many differences.
The sticker under the hood tells you what you have.
open hood , look up ,not down.
good luck

Thats the thing i'm finding out a lot lately, The American Zooks are very different to the New Zealand assembled ones in the reguards to options offered and engine sizes.
