Default Cleared SES code from 98 Sidekick

How do I do it? The little ingrate threw me a SES just as I was driving hope from picking up a hardtop for it in view of next winter!

AARG!

it however still runs just fine so it's probably something silly.

O2 sensor is brand new from two weeks ago when I got it, it had a SES when I test drove it and they changed the O2 and that fixed the SES.

I pulled the air filter and it was gross and will have to be changed. When I unplugged the MAF and the other airbox sensor, the engine started bucking and stalling so those aren't it.

I found this;

Suzuki Engine trouble codes, how to get them, what they mean

And I'll try getting the scan tool, maybe rent it if I can.

OK, so I was driving it around and I thought the engine sounded unusual. This '98 made a weird wwoooonnngg sound when revving it up since I got it, everything runs smooth, plenty of power and no shake or anything, it just makes this weird wooong sound like an inline 6 cylinder motor would make.

Anyways, the wooonng sound was GONE! It sounded just like my first Zuki, same model but a '97 so same engine and spec.

I drove back home, and parked, I decided to go ahead and disco the battery and see if it would clear the SES.

So I disco the battery, check the oil (it's fine, less than 2000kms on it and full, nice and clear too), pulled a spark plug, looks new so I measure the gap and it's spec (.029) so I put that back.

Removed the MAF sensor, cleaned it, put it back, removed the fuel tank cap, it felt loose. Put it back, tightened it over 8-9 clicks.

Plugged the battery back up, fired up the engine and voila, no more SES.

So it occurred to me, I had a '92 Saturn, the only NEW car I ever bought and the only problem I ever had with it was the fuel tank cap.

I had to change it twice under warranty then another time on my own dime (30$+!!) because it got "tired" and was setting off my SES.

I think that's it.

I filled up with gas and when the fuel level drops under 1/4 if the SES comes back, i'll know...

Default 98 OBD2 level engine

hi
SES , must be Canada speak for CEL or MIL.
check engine light (lamp label) or Maitenance Interval light (SAE spec)

This ECU is smart, much smarter than my heap.

disconnnecting the battery ONLY resets the monitors in the computer to start over.
There are many monitors, 1 is for loss of fuel tank air pressure ( cap off).
there are many.

here in the USA we just go to Autozone and say, please Sir scan my car. thanks.
bingo , instant answer.

the tool is $100 USD. ( less if you look)

There are many errors that this car can produce.
Horrible things like Lazy cat P0421 or EGR test failed.

On these cars , if it sets once ( except the cap) it will come back.
Evac Emission Control System code is P0440 ! incase you dont know.
( not just the cap can cause this , any leak in the evap can cause it)

So let us know if it comes back and what the code is.

find a parts shop that has friendly OBD2 free scans.

you wont be sorry , because someday , you will need him.

The diagnostics in your car are vastly smarter.
and it give much clearer ideas to what is wrong.
unlike my heap.

I have 3 cars with new OBD2 and one heap.
The heap only flashes the lamp, and is always wrong.

A heap of junk is my inferance. to my KICK , sidekick.
but I like my beater, I can torture it and can put lots of junk in to it. Like fertilizer , baby trees, manure , and the like. It's me baby.

My wife cringes when it starts, sounds like a Sopwith Camel starting up. Fast idle is insane on KICKS.

OBD2 means:
On board level 2 diagnostics.
You save a ton on gas money cuz of it. !

That's great info. Thanks. I've got a hookup for some 35$ OBDII readers from a local guy. If it comes back I'll get it.
