Lightbulb Air intake mod

So I've installed a conic air filter and it's working wonders. The truck not only response better (throttle response) but it even SOUNDS better. There's no doubt this was a great bolt-on for some extra ponies... Here's the tricky part.

I used the stock hose that lead to the box and made a tray for the air filter where the old one sat. Do the ripples in this hose take away from the effect of the filter. Seems to me they would slow the airflow into the intake... and secondly what is the main purpose of that little honeycomb bit in the center of that tube.

I'm thinking of changing it over to a straight 3" pipe to the steel part of the intake. Is it worth it?

Thanks,

The honeycomb in the intake tube is designed to reduce noise and to straiten the airflow before it hit the MAF, TB, or carb. The ribs are disinged to alow the engine to flex seperate from the filter and yes does cause turbulance. There is already a extensive cold air inake thread. http://http://www.suzuki-forums.com/...ghlight=filter

That link didn't work...

And yeh I heared about the air straightener... seems kinda redundant. Would just any honey comb mesh work? Like if I was to install it in another pipe. Also, I planned on making a rubber flex-joint on the engine to allow it to rock without moving the air filter too much. I find the ribbing kind of excessive for that purpose...

p.s. does anyone own a K/N kit, do they have the honey combs in the pipe? (And is it more of a carb thing than EFI?)

No it more of a EFI thing than carb because the MAF sensor need turbulent free air in order to accuraly measure air flow. http://www.suzuki-forums.com/suzuki-...ir-intake.html
