Default weird ass transmission problem on 90 sidekick

alright, so yesterday me and my brotehr changed my clutch that blew into pieces.
before the swap. i was able to start my car, shift through all the gears fine. i just wouldnt move because i had no clutch. after we install the clutch. i started my car up in neutral. and i wasnt able to shift into any gears with the car running. i turned it off and i ran through the gears nice and smooth, so i know its not my stick. i adjust my clutch pedal so it releases about halfway to the floor. start it up and still cant get into gears. so i know what your thinking. my clutch won't release. well heres the weird thing. if i start my car in first gear, i am able to hold my clutch in and just sit there, and if i want to take off, i just let the clutch out normally and i can drive away. but then as soon as i try and go into another gear, i take it out of first and it kicks out like im not holding the clutch in. and i cant go into another gear, i cant even put it back into first.

The other weird thing is, on my transfer case for four wheel drive. i have 2w 4h N 4L. if i go into neutral and then start my car. i can go through all the gears fine i just cant move my wheels because the transfer case is in neutral. but once my car is running, i cant take the transfer case out of neutral, it grinds trying to get into 4w or 2w.

any thoughts?

did you put the clutch plate with fingers in the right way? a garage did that to my mk1 golf once and it did that. and did you check the clutch for operation?

ok i've not looked at the suzuki set up but on my golf when you couldn't select gears it was either the gear select linkages had fallen apart or the were bent and had to be straightened. If there are any linkages check.

also once my clutch cable fell out the little holder and i had to get home by turning off the engine selecting 2nd gear and then crawling home! but then i had no feeling of clutch but you can feel it right?

Thats really weird the only thing I can think of is something might have been damage when the clitch gave out. Maybe there are some clues in the tranny oil?
