Default Surging and stalling V6

hi from New zealand - I have just aquired a 95 escudo 2l v6 and it idles like a pig, especially when hot. It surges between about 600 and 1000rpm and stalls at intersections or while reversng etc. Otherwise it seems to run fine. Could it be the egr or Idle control valve and if so where do I find them? I am not much of a mechanic. Thanx for the help. Charlie

The 2L V6 is rare on this forum as it was not sold in North America but it does sound like a IAC valve. I think there is a service manual that might help you at .:Suzuki Download Archive:. the SQ416 i think.

Hi,

Surging? To me that sounds like a vacuum leak. Do, like Schoner said, check your IAC valve. If that does not correct your problem, look for a leaky vaccum hose.

Hi guys and thanx. I'm not sure where the iac is but I removed and cleaned a valve on top of the inlet manifold that is electrically driven and seems to bleed in air. This improved things but not completely. It still stalls when I slow down at an intersection and stop completely then start to turn. It seems to die under increased load. If i turn on the a/c it also surges as it does when I spin the whell. The revs drop dramtically, they pick up, drop again and then stalls. Got me really stuck!

Uh oh ! I cleaned and checked the manifold valve again and removed and checked the throttle position sensor but now have a permanent check engine light and have lost heaps of power with revs peaking around 3k and truck pick up really slow.
Any ideas?. Booked into service center for next week so hopefully they can help but would like to get rid of the light.
Could I have put the tps back wrong as it appears to be moveable but alters the idle too high if i shift it?

A couple of things i've discovered along the way may help you.
The worst being I have a blown head gasket!. but that mightn't be your cause (yet). What I found happens is the engine management system goes crazy when the engine heats up just above normal operating temp ( dodgey thermostat can be enough to cause it) No matter what you do by way of adjustment when the motor is at normal temp, it throws a wobbly when hot and starts to stall on idle or if under load from power steering or a/c when the revs aren't up.
You need to find the cause if it gets hotter than say a third of the temp gauge. Then get the throttle position sensor and intake air control valve adjusted to interact correctly and you should be ok. I unfortunately am in the market for a new v6 motor.!!!
Good luck

Gee the problem you are describing is identical to what my 2l V6 Vitara is doing. If you coast up the lights, or put a load on the motor with the power steering, or switch on or off the a/c it "sometimes" stalls, but everytime it will at least "just about" stall. If anyone has fixed this problem, any information on how it was fixed is gratefully received!

No, didnt touch the thermostat. Temperature is spot on. I have had the thermostat out when doing the cam chain tensioner and it looked fine.

I have a feeling it is one of the sensors but which one, i dont know? I had a similar weird problem with a Honda integra before and it cost me a bomb after a mechanic replaced random sensors and it still didnt fix the problem. I am not going to fall for that trick again.
