Default Timing, Timing, Timing!!??

I need some help. This is frustrating. Some of you may remember my last post. Well after I picked the truck up from the mechanic I reset the timing to 5 degrees and all was well. It ran great for about a week. Then I got the same symptoms as before. I checked the timing once more and it was off again. I don't what's up with that. I never had this problem until recently. I tried to set the timing back to 5 degrees and it didn't work. I had to set to 16 degrees for it to run. I kept trying to stall and had no power. The timing as it sits is off the scale. If there were a scale it would be like 80 degrees.

It's a 93 sidekick 16v. I just spent $400 on a computer that I didn't need. I can't get my money back. I have no codes. I have checked the timing belt and marks before and it's right on. I need some help. Any ideas. Could it be the CMP in the disty?

This is what I have to do for it to run and no I don't drive it like this.

You want to here something funny. When I got out to turn the disy I left the ignition on with the door open. I turned the disty completely counter clockwise and then back and it sounded like it shorted out something. When I did it my door chime stopped chiming for about a second and then started again. It did it every single time. It sounded almost like the battery cable was disconnected and reconnected because I could here all the relays click. Is this normal or do I have a short somewhere?

No doubt you have what I and a few others have had. The crankshaft gear (that drives the timing belt) wears where the key in the crank slot holds it on. The key also wears, really bad, and the groove in the crank wears. On mine I had to set the timing to about 18 degrees till I found the trouble. I'll look around and see if I still have the pic of the worn parts. I wouldn't drive it anymore till you find out if this is the trouble, might let loose all together. Tracka

See that's the thing. Remember in the last post I told you that my crankshaft pulley wobbles. I wobbles more now. I thought it was just the pulley.

Is this something I can only get from the dealer. Yes pics will help.

will the pulley off an 8 valve motor work? I am parting one out and will sell cheap(labor involved) plus shipping.

Sounds like a good idea but they are hard to find around here.

And I don't know if the 8v would work.

it should work, mine came from a 16v and my car is an 8v. just compare the groove and pulley grooves for the belts.
Allan.
