Hello,
What a great site...........
I've had my 1991 Tracker for a year now, and it's been a problem free fun little off road exploration vehicle.
I did have problem with the day-lamp controller cutting out a while back,[ but I just fiddled with the harness plug going to the controller a bit and the lamps worked again.
3 months later, the day-lamps or low beam headlights just quit working. High beams still work. I see where the day-lamp controller / wire harness plug have melted a bit, almost fused together. Yup, a short. Two of the wires going to the controller / plug also have the insulation melted a bit, one is the hot wire, the other is the ground wire. [ I have the 1991 service manual to look this up in ].
Problem: the dayglow controller is an outdated part no longer being made. How can I wire the headlamps to a simple on /off toggle switch that I can install on the dash board, by-passing the dayglow controller alltogether? Will this work? There are 10 wires in that harness, most of them are some sort of low-beam override circut, like when the parking break is applied, the dayglow lamps come on, etc...
Anyone done this? Good with wiring?
Will the steering column mounted multi switch work as it should with this alteration? I'm not sure....
Thanks.
