Question for the pro's. Have auto locking hubs on my 94 tracker, and the owners manual states it cannot be towed 4 down. If these hubs are unlocked, what would be different than normal driving? I want to tow it and wonder if I have to change it back to manual hubs. Thanks in advance, Mark
I havn't checked the driveshaft, but was wondering-you have to go thru 4wheel high to get to neutral, and i wonder if the transfer case stays in 4wd, and only seperates the drive train from the transmission. If thats the case, then the forward turning of the front driveshaft will engage the hubs.
Thanks for your help, Mark
I'm pretty sure that the when in neutral the transfer case is totally disengaged from both the front and the rest of the drivetrain. I have know idea how the auto hubs work on these. Are they vacuum actuated? If so then when the car is turned off then the hubs would be engaged. But what I really don't understand is so what if the hubs are engaged? As long as the transfer case is in neutral. The front axle and driveshaft will rotate but thats not a really big deal.
im tempted to check tomorrow to visually see when the t-case is in neutral if the propeller shafts turn, cause if they do then they will lock the front hubs, front hubs are locked by rotational turn, not vacuum actuated from 89-98, you do have to go into 4wd high when shifting into neutral but that will not keep it in 4wd high,
