OK, here’s the dilemma, I’ve got a 98 Tracker that is in nice shape, except the engine (16L, 16v) has just blown; the result of a catastrophic oil loss, it now smokes like nobody’s business.
I’m wondering if an engine from a 95 tracker is compatible with all the computer and sensor hook-ups.
The 95 is probably OBD I and the 98 is a OBD II. So your going to have to fit the newer harness on the older engine. You could probably get it to work. Did the newer ones have crankshaft position sensors and MAP sensors?
Yep the newer ones have both crank and map, at least the blowed up one I have does. I'm not sure I have the abilities to match obd1 to obd2 and make everyting work smog legal. Issue is I can get a used 95 for a little over 600 USD, but a 98 is 1200, ouch.
