Seems to me you are getting feedback from wiring loop shorting out the system. Did you connect any equipment prior to the problem might be causing feedback? If so disconnect and check. Also try relay out, meter voltage acrossrelay socket holes to pick positive feed and watch the voltage swing and then trace for ground shorting.
