I wonder if anyone knows about the problem we have been having in South and South East UK recently with supermarkets and some forecourts selling silicone contaminated petrol which resulted to 1000s of vehicles juddering and breaking down completely. I normally buy my fuel from Jet in London which is very local to me. I filled the vehicle last Saturday and I drove back home and an hour later headed off to Oxford 70 miles from London. On return journey I noticed a drop in engine power but luckily got home. Sunday morning I left my home to the car boot sales 5 miles away and noticed even less engine power and broke down returning home. I got home on recovery truck when they told me my pump is not pumping fuel to the engine. Could it be that the petrol I bought on Saturday was silicone contaminated and caused the shut down of engine? Appreciate feed backs please.

Take a sample and get it analyzed.

Sent sample of fuel for test to check excessive sillicone contents. Will know result in 3 days. Meanwhile took out the pump from the tank and inside a bucket poured 2 litres of diesel and tested the pump. When connected to the battery, the pump did not start to pump automatically. I have to knock the pump with a hammer for it to start pumping and even then the pressure of fluid coming out is not all that great. Whether it is just the pump given up due to wear & tear or possibly sillicone has gummed it up, I have to find another pump. Thanks every one for your help. Danny

I'd say it's time for a new fuel pump!! Sometimes when they quit you can bang the bottom of the fuel tank with a mallet and jar them loose enuf to limp home!!

so a quick question how about if the fuel pump relay is clicking like mad when you first turn the key on

what do you think that could be???
bad ground or pump gone haywire??

thanks in advance

Can easily check ground with a meter. Pull the relay out and small amount of WD40 lubrication and replace it. If ground was faulty, wouldn't click at all. Relay in miy car did not click at all. Fuel wouldn't get to the engine. Most likely cause of clicking sounds like charge and discharge of capacitor inside relay itself. Best person to respond to this is Schoner who is an expert on such matters. Request his help by emailing him. Good Luck. Danny

Relays are relatively cheap. I would just install a new one and if the clicking persists then I would start looking into bad grounds, as they can be a pain in the ass to locate. A bad fuel pump will have little influence on the relay.
