Default 92 sidekick MUFFLER?

92 sidekick MUFFLER?

Is it necessary to have the piping that comes after the muffler on a 92 sidekick? Is it illegal since the fumes would be exiting under the car?

I have tried exiting the exhaust underneath the car before the rear axle and while seems to work not bad it's not a good idea. First it's really loud, the sound seems to bounce around and resonate badly into the cab. In the winter ice accumulates on everything. Theres a higher chance of exhaust grasses entering the cab especially on a convertible model. I'm thinking about trying a side exit in the future.

i had my exhaust exit under the body also, and it does get really annoying after a while, i just exteneded it straight out the back and it works great.

When you exit it straight out, doesn't the piping hit the gas tank?

mine kinda follows the frame rails, no problem at all with clearances, or with it rubbing anything. its not quite straight though, i have two 45's so that if follows the frame closer.
