It's all about final the drive gear ratio. Sounds like you've got high 4's 0R 5 to (something) gearing. It's a lot of work to correct by adding lower ratio differential gearing. I'm assuming that your ride is a little low on horsepower from the factory, thus the high ratio gears to compensate. You COULD go with taller tires. That will lower the RPM at speed, but also throw off your speedometer and worsen acceleration at the same time. Speaking of such...are you sure that your speedo and tach are accurate now?!?

I run 3000 rpm at 70 MPH in my Zuki FWIW.

MAX your Suzuki is a 1999 probably has different ratios. 4000PRM at 120KM/H sounds normal for either the 5 speed manual or 4 speed automatic.

I'm with ya'! Just trying to help sort out that Lil' Sidekick issue.

He's probably got a higher RPM to engine power ratio than what I'm running to help compensate for his smaller engine. Either that, some significant "off road" gearing (factory OR modified).

Good point!

Or maybe he's not out of low range! (if he even HAS the capability. Don't know)

My sidekick has a 5 speed manual, and it was bought from a owner in Wyoming so it could have been modified. Also after i rewired the plug to the injecter to get it running, (plug on harness was broke) now it smokes a little bit. Smells a little like fuel smell,so by useing starting fluid in it a couple of times, could i of fouled out the spark plugs? Or could it be something else? Thanks for the help!!!!

My 1995 Tracker, 1.6, 16v, 3 spd auto runs @ 3700 rpm @ 65 mph. Seems high compared to my 96 Sunfire w/4spd auto, but w/o overdrive I guess it's to be expected. Good luck, Dave
