Default 94 sidekick gas gauge

hi, just bought a 94 sidekick and the fuel gauge doesnt work. can anyone help me out on what it might be.

The fuel level sensor is part of the fuel pump. The wires coming out of the pump are probably corroded.

thanks for replying, so do i need to remove the fuel thank to check those wires?

Yea the wires will be on top of the tank so you have to drop it down.

Before you go right to dropping the gas tank, it might be worth while to pull the gauges and see if you see anything suspicious there. Tracka

On some models, I don't know if it's true on all, the gauge circuit goes thru the ECM, might be worth a try to un-plug and re-seat the ECM connectors. Tracka

No I'm pretty shure the fuel gauge sender does not go thru the ECM, at least not on a 94.

I'm just going by what I see in Chiltons, wiring diagram for 92-95 1.6 mfi shows it thru the ECM, but who knows. Tracka

O maybe your right. My Haynes shows no sender coming from the ECU. I'm curiuos to know. I'm try to find out as much as possiable about the ECM, I going to try and reprogram it.

ok thanks but when u say pull the gauges to see if there anything suspicious do u mean remove the dash to check wires in the back? if so how do i reset the ECM connectors?i also have the haynes repair manual.
