Question 97 Sidekick Soft Top (what the...)!!!

I recently bought a 97 Sidekick, it has a soft top and Im having problems with it. I guess my question is how was the back window piece attached to the tail gate originally? I dont know if mine is broken or missing a part or what but after driving that top (plastic) window part separates from the tailgate leaving a gap.....and yeah its been raining!!! [/size]

Surely it should be stitched?

oops realised i read it wrong!

does it not clip into place, some sort of plastic bar running along the bottom of window piece and clip onto tailgate?? quite hard to explain!

mine has Velcro at ether end that mates to the other half of the Velcro that is clipped to the tailgate, the middle piece has a small flap stitched to the roff that then clips to the tailgate

On the '97 models the OEM roof has a long square plastic bar that clicks into place on both sides in the back, my driver's side bracket (on my '97) broke and I used epoxy glue to fix it but it was then permanent and could not be taken off.

It's in the owner's manual BTW...

not sure about a 97 but my 94 has 3 plastic "c" clips on the tailgate which retain a fiberglass rod that should be in the slotted fabric tube sewn into the bottom of your window. If it's not there go to a bone yard surely they will have one.

Default changed hardware

They seem to have changed the mounting hardware for soft tops sometime between 1994 and 1997. I used to have a '92, now bought a '97 and the system is different. The '92 had the three c clips. I can't figure out what the '97 is supposed to have, and the previous owner lost so many parts I think i need to start over.

The body seems to have the same threaded holes as the '92, so I'm going to retrofit it to take '92 soft top because they're about half the cost.
