Default 96 Tracker's Reverse Lights Stay on

My wife has a 96 Geo Tracker, non 4X4 with about 90,000 miles on it. It's been a great car! Plan on keeping it and handing it down to our 15 year old daughter.

Here's the problem, the other night while she was coming home from work - I noticed the Reverse Lights were on (she was driving in 2nd gear at the time. After she stopped I got in and tried to shift in and out of reverse a few times, then I went through the gears, the lights stayed on. It is a 5 speed manual transmission, by the way.

I haven't done anything more than that. I'm trying to do a little research before I tear into it or take it to a shop to fix. Any ideas out there??

Thanks in advance,

Michael

Your backup light switch went bad. On the upper left hand side of tranny. (drivers side) There is a switch with two wires hooked to it. Since you have 2wd you only have one switch on that side. Unscrew it and replace, very simple. I am pretty sure it is above the fill plug,so you should not leak any fluid.
Good luck

Thanks, sound simple enough - finding the part sounds like it is going to be the most difficult part.
