hey guys was wondering how i could tell if i have a 16v or 8v engine i have a 92 2 door 5-speed jx o know it has tbi for sure

that would be nice i don't know when the last time the timing belt was changed the truck has 260,000 km on it. so even if it breaks it won't bend valves

I think they didnt start putting the 16v in til like 94-95 on the 2doors, and that was an option not a requirement. I believe most if not all JX 2doors are 8v. Easiest way to tell? The frickin valve cover AND timing belt cover have huge "16 VALVE" text on them. If its 8v usually the valve cover will be painted black, and will be a bit less wide. Hope that helps.

Easiest and quickest way to tell 8 valve from 16 valve. Remove distributor cap and observe rotor rotation. 8 valve will rotate clockwise "CW" and 16 valve will rotate counter clockwise "CCW". John

TBI = 8 valve (throttle body injection) -- non interference

MPFI = 16 valve (multi-port fuel injection) -- interference

ya it's quite obvious now since i've seen both motors and considering i just got a 16v motor for free!! muahahah anyways
