well i have a 1997 geo tracker that was my moms and doesnt work right and she gave it to me for a muddin vehicle if i can fix it. it is a 5 spd. 4x4 with the 1.6 and it will start up but when i press the gas pedal i have to slowly get on it or else it will stall if i push to quick but it will only reach around 1500 rpm. while moving it from her house to mine i couldnt go fast at all maybe 5 mph max but had enough to make it up my driveway. even under the hood i will give it a little bit from the throttle and will do the same thing like pressing the gas. is this a clogged fuel filter? bad pump? bad timing? i am new with these vehicles so PLEASE HELP ME!! on a side note i have big plans for the future if i can get it running i plan on a 3" body lift, i am not sure on the tires yet and many more plans help and suggestions wanted. thanks, zach

what it does is fire up and have a rough idle almost as if it is running on 3 cyl. and when it warms up i can put that back end on stands and ease on the gas and about half throttle is when it picks up but when i floor it it will bog down. is this getting more air then fuel? is the ignition system going? and also when it is on the road i can only chug along in 1st. gear w/o any speed increase please anyone help and thanks for the reply

this sounds familiar check your compression is it a 16 valve or an 8 valve ? has the timing belt broken lately? then if it's neither of those it could be your ignition timing

my buddy had the same problem he had a bent valve sopunds adentical to problem you got but it could be the timing as well.

so if compression is good check you timing on your cam see if the key has sheared or bent and then check your ignition timing

it sounds like one of those 3 problems
