A/c Problems With 1997 Sidekick

I have a 1997 Sidekick, 4WD. The A/C works fine when it is working, vedry cold air, no leaks in the system, quiet compressor, but after driving 35-40 miles and stopping for a short time, i.e. < 1hr. The A/C will not engage the compressor and thus does not work. If the engine cools down for about 2-hours, the A/C will work fine. The high-pressure switch is functioning properly. Does anyone know if there is a relay that may be getting hot and not functioning or has anyone had this problem and what was the fix for it?

hello:

just replaced the compressor in my 94 sidekick, what an expense!!

anyhow, i would recommend a shop hook it up to guages and make sure the high and low sides are within recommended pressure specs, also, there is a coolant temp sensor that cycles the a/c as well, shop should be able to check that as well,
