For some reason unknown to me, my '00 Vitara 2dr 1.6L (115Km) seems to be hesitating. I find this mainly happens while either excellerating and/or driving over 100km/hr. It almost feels like the little truck is being pulled back for a second then it springs back or it stutters for a second. I tried a fuel injector cleaner & it seemed to help for a few days now it's started up again. I do a lot of highway driving apx 160km a day. Has anyone else had similar problems?
As well on certain days when I starter' up whatever belt is making a lovely high pitch squeel for a few seconds????
Any help would be much appreciated - especially prior to bringing to the shop :0)
On the stuttering i couldn't say much. On the belt sqeeling its either the serpentine belt that runs the water pump and alternator, or the accessory belt that runs the Power steering and possible AC if you have it. Those are simple to fix, just loosen the top bolts on the alternator take a bar and pry the alternator a little bit to tighten the belt, and then while prying the alternator tighten the bolts. to tighten the other belt loose the pivot bolt on the power steering and the other bolt and repeat as with the alternator. if it still does it the belt is worn out.
Thanks for the tips on the belt... I have had them pretty much all replaced in the last few mts. I do know they need to be adjusted once in while. Unfortunately I do not have a/c but that's what a drop-top for LOL!!!!!!!! Just hope I can figure out the hesitating/stuttering... I have noticed it's more or less affecting the excelleration. HMMMM?
haha lucky girl, i have a solid cab and no AC, and right now tempratures are hitting the high 80's if not 90's. There is a little hesitation if you get on the 1.6L and 1.3L suzuki engines, just a little bit, thats normal however. If its pretty noticable, like it stutters its a serius problem. Just a little hesitation when you jump on the throttle is normal as long as it doesn't stutter and jump and such.
Oh I know about those temperatures... Were going through the same thing here...
I was speaking with a friend of mine who know's quite a bit about engines etc... He recommended I start with changing the fuel filter. Hopefully this will be the problem... I also was told by my old mechanic to use higher octane gas but now I am being told that's not good for my little truck.. Hey, I have no problem with that.. especially with the cost of gas right now... :0)
heh running premium will actually help your little truck, it will help clean the carbon out of the tiny engine, and also it will give you a little bit of a power boost and will help the engine pick up faster. there is a reason its a extra .30 cents a gallon. sorry about the bad news, i used to run premium inmine for a while, until gas prices soared. Now regular is just as much as premium used to be.
I was also advised if I use the lower octane, apx every 6 mths run some 'tech ron' (whatever it's called) & that will help clear out the junk???? It does not hurt to try. Ah, I'll GIVER' ha ha ha
the chevron with techron gas is good gas, like every 6 months or so i would run a tank or two of premium chevron with techron, the higher octane burns cleaner, and burns more complete. more complete burn results in more power. very well worth it.
I don't think you guys understand the whole "octane rating" thing. Here's a link to explain why octane has nothing to do with your power or engine cleanliness. You are experiencing better acceleration and a cleaner engine (have you actually taken it apart before and after the tankful of "good gas" to compare them?) because you "expect" it to be better. The truth is, "treating" your car to high octane gas is a sucker's bet. It is merely a waste of money. Here's a link to learn a little about octane. Is High Octane Gas Worth the Money?
I would check EGR valve and vacuum lines to it. EGR is most likely sticking or leaking vacuum. You can try plugging vac. line to EGR and see if that fixes the problem.
