Hi! I'm currently looking after my sister's Vitara. It's been a year since they got it and today is the first time it's been offroading in that time, as I wanted to check the front hubs. Since there is nothing external to indicate manual locking, I presume it has auto locking front hubs?
It's a 1996 3dr soft top JX.
We quite like playing with this toy - it's nicer than the 1991 model we had before - so my gf is wondering about getting one to replace her Scorpio. She's gotten quite used to her automatic, though, so we're wondering if they ever sold a 3dr, soft-top automatic Vitara in the UK?
Other questions: Is there a better quality of soft top? The zips always seem to fail on the rear door, and dealing with the door is a pain - a roll-up rear window would be better!
Finally: How close are the chassis of the 5dr V6 and the 3dr models? Is it possible/has it been done to transplant the V6 engine into the 3dr model? I know people can do almost anything (and usually do), but I'm wondering if it's an /easy/ transplant.
Is it difficult to replace the radio antenna? (I forgot that one, I need to replace the sunvisor too!).
