Exclamation G16A can't find VIN or cereal on motor

Are they anyone out there that can help before I go completely bald?

I got a 96 geo tracker and I'm pretty sure the motor has been changed because the power steering pump I put I put in was not "for" my tracker. I went thru about 100 of them before I found one that fit. I can't find the vin or anything that I use to get parts and not headaches. From what I gather (and may be completely wrong) I think it's a Suzuki motor because I found G16S stamped on back, but that still don't help me walk in autozone and say "I need _ _ for a 19?? Whatever motor" where is the VIN or how can I tell what this motor is out of specifically?

Stand on the driver's side of the car (left), and look at the bellhousing of the tranny, which will be to your right. The engine number is just there where the bellhousing and engine attach.

Go back to where you found the "G16S" stamped - did the stamp say something like G16S-nnnnnnnn - where nnn is a series of numbers?

Is it the same location Bex is sending you?

If so you found the engine number or serial number (the engine itself will not have a VIN) and if so the S suggests, the engine is a 95.

My bad. The "s" in g16s was a typo. It is g16A.

Also they were no other numbers after the g16a.

Where the tarns and motor meet is where I found the g16s stamp

Any other suggestions?

Well - go look where Bex is telling you - and you should find, stamped into a flat spot along the edge the engine's serial number - G16L-NNNNNNNN - where L is a letter, and NNN is a string of numbers.
