TPMS "learn" mode

I have a 2010 SLS with CVT. I live in snow country, so I bought a second set of wheels with snow tires. Of course, after I put the snow wheels on, the TPMS light on the dash started flashing. So I bought 4 new sensors for the new wheels ($200). Had the sensors installed, and the dash light was still flashing. Took it to the tire shop and they "reset" the sensors, but the TPMS light did not go off on the dash. I took it to the dealer and $50 later, the light was off. So now it's spring. I put my stock wheels back on at the TPMS light returns. I don't want to pay another $50 to the dealer to reset the TPMS, so I buy my own sensor reset tool ($80). You point it at the tire, push a button and it tells the sensor in the tire to send a signal to the computer in the car. Except, you have to put the car in "learn mode" first.

On other Suzuki models (I have two SX4's) you can put the vehicle in learn mode by pressing the driver's side door button. I've tried the same method on my Kizashi and it doesn't work!

Sorry for the long post... here's the question. Does anyone know how to put a Kizashi into TPMS learn mode without a trip to the dealer? The owner's manual does not give instructions.

Thanks.

Not using SUZUKI Scan Tool
1) Confirm that all doors are closed and the ignition mode of the keyless push start system is “OFF”.
2) Open the driver's side door.
3) Perform the following Steps a) to c) within 15 seconds after changing ignition mode to “ON”.
a) Press driver side door switch within 5 seconds after changing ignition mode to “ON”. Keep pressing the driver-side door switch for 2 seconds.
b) Release the driver-side door switch and then press the driver-side door switch for 2 seconds or more.
c) Release the driver-side door switch and then press the driver-side door switch for 2 – 5 seconds.
4) Using recommended tool (“VT55” made by ATEQ) (1), activate each tire pressure sensor within 180 seconds.
Refer to the instructions of recommended tool for the method of activating the tire pressure sensor.
5) Push the engine switch to change the ignition mode to “OFF” after registration is completed.

NOTE:
• When the tire pressure sensor is activated, the ID code of the tire pressure sensor is registered automatically in the keyless start control module.
• If all 4 tire pressure sensor ID codes are not registered in the keyless start control module within 180 seconds, perform the above steps again. Also, it is possible to check the number of tire pressure sensor ID codes received by the keyless start control module by observing the flashing pattern of the low tire pressure warning light.
• If the registration of tire pressure sensor ID codes is not completed within 180 seconds, former ID codes remain in the keyless start control module.
• When the keyless start control module receives all 4 tire pressure sensor ID codes, the keyless start control module turns ON the low tire pressure warning light in combination meter for 5 seconds.

didn't work

Thanks for the reply Jeff. I have tried the method you described about 10 times, and nothing changes. I've tried holding the door button a little longer and shorter, anything I can think of, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

Is the car supposed to respond in some way to let you know that it is in learn mode? My dash says "Service TPMS" the exclamation point icon flashes and the tire symbol is on.

Any thoughts?

Aside from taking it to the dealership to put the car in learn mode with the scan tool I don't know. The 200 step procedures that Suzuki uses never seem to work properly....or there could be a typo in the instructions that I copied and pasted from the service manual...Suzuki manuals are horrible for that

Plan B

I think the service manual is correct, because it is the same process for an SX4. I'll try it a few more times before I give up.

Do you think a "generic" scan tool would work to put the car into learn mode? I can get a OBDII scan tool for about $150.

Thanks again for your input.

Good News Bad News.
Good News: Schrader is making a new TPMS sensor called EZ sensor. It is programable using standard ATEQ programer. They can read your original sensor and program new sensor with same ID. Install those in your winter wheels. Then you can swap winter wheels and summer wheels and the cars TPMS does not know the differance. Does not need to be taken to dealer for Re-learn. Tirerack has sensors for $46 ea.
Bad News: I already installed a different set of sensors and need to go to dealer for programing my winter wheels still.

Ending the TPMS Nightmare

+1.

I just swapped out my winter Blizzaks for my all-season OEMs without any problems, and no need for TPMS reset. Honestly, I don't know why it worked, because I didn't force it to "re-learn" and I didn't take it to the dealer. The actual Suzuki TPMS sensors are a horrible ripoff, going for somewhere around $126-135/EACH!

I will try to be as clear as possible, since I know this is a confusing topic for all (myself included!):

Equipment:

1. Original 2011 Suzuki SX4 Crossover (Tech Pkg) wheels with the original all-season tires and factory-installed Suzuki TPMS
2. Blizzak WS60s
3. Suzuki performance wheels (see attached image)
4. Schrader TPMS replacement sensors (4) from TireRack ( 315MHz Tire Pressure Sensor, Schrader #20087, see attached image)

What I did:

1. The original factory tires were dismounted from the factory wheels, but I left the original TPMS sensors on that set. Basically, I wanted to use the original wheels as the "winter beaters" and put the all-seasons on my nice, new, spiffy "performance" Zuk wheels.
2. The Blizzaks were mounted and balanced on to the original factory wheels, with the original TPMS sensors in place.
3. I put the winter set on my vehicle with the original sensors and wheels. NO TPMS LIGHT. It worked fine, as you would expect.
4. The original all-seasons were mounted on to the performance Suzuki wheels I purchased, using the new Schrader 20087 sensors I ordered from TireRack. I had the work done at TiresPlus (NO, I don't work for TP).
5. This Spring, I just swapped out my wheels: When I switched them, the car was off. I did one wheel at a time, and, when I was done, I moved the entire winter wheel set into my garage (car was in driveway). I checked the all-season/performance wheel tires pressures and corrected, then I started the car. I started the car without doing anything, and there was NO TPMS LIGHT.

I don't know why my procedure worked without re-setting the TPMS module. I can only hazard a guess that the Schrader replacement truly is an exact match for the sensors.

TireRack was very helpful with this (NO, I don't work for TR), so it may be worth a call to them if you are considering getting a dedicated winter/summer setup going.

Hi all. First time post here. Hope I can provide some help.

I have a 2012 SLS for which I bought a mint set of used MB wheels with Hankook Winter iPike tires for a virtual song. I did the research on TPMS units and found that Schrader made the cloning EZ sensor but there was no vehicle application for the Kizashi. I took the car down to Discount Tire as they exclusively sell MB wheels. I figured they would cut me a bit of a deal.

The salesman said that the VDO Redi-Sensors would work as cloned sensors without having to match the old units. Basically they put them in, put the wheels back on the car and I take off. Somehow the unit would pick it up. When they got them on and had to use the little tool to help the car learn I was highly disappointed thinking that with the EZ sensors it wouldn't have needed it since the car would have sensed the OEM sensor IDs on the cloned sensors. The salesman said unfortunately Suzuki didn't support that so I would have to get the sensors tied to the car's ECU each time with the tool. Discount Tire would do it for free though, just a hassle of time.

I left with the car. Went about 20 miles and the Service TPMS light came on. Took the car back a few days later and they reset everything. Went another 20 miles and the light came back on again. Yesterday I called the salesman and said the light was back on. I was wondering if the tire size would cause a problem as they are a little bigger than stock. Perhaps the different wheel size was causing an issue with sensed rotational speed and throwing an error? He was going to check with his corporate people for some help. I would do my own research too.

He called me today and said that there IS a method of cloning the OEM sensors to to new TPMS sensors - no tool, no learning necessary. The wheel speed had nothing to do with it as they are pressure-only (direct) units that only set off with low pressure. Tire position on the car is also a non-issue. It's supposedly a simple matter of plugging the original ID's into the new sensors. I'm going to bring the car in this Friday and we'll try the process again with the stock wheel sensors being cloned to blank ones. I also did some calling and got in touch with Bartech USA who handles the EZ Sensor line here. They said even though the Kizashi isn't listed in their application they COULD use cloned sensors. The specific one is the Bridgeport 33000.

I'll know more Friday. Hope this helps those who are trying to run a set of snow shoes and deal with this stupid TPMS system.

Hi Guys,

Resurrecting an old thread here: I just put on a set of 17" from the sedan. Obviously the TPMS is flashing and then stays on. I want to try the above procedure, but can you please tell me which switch is the "driver door switch"?

Is it the door lock switch? The window switch? the door handle? Thanks in advance!

Some notes on how I triggered my sx4 TPMS relearn mode

This is an older thread, but I thought it might be worth posting about my experiences with my SX4 since others may find themselves in my shoes.

My TPMS light would slow blink on startup, and then eventually turn steady.

It was easy for the mechanic to identify that one of the TPMS wheel sensors were bad, which they replaced.

However, the mechanic could NOT trigger the sx4 relearn procedure, using the steps outlined in this thread, and the similar variations on many other sx4 threads.

I myself tried every variation of the instructions, followed by activating the 4 TPMS sensors in order, as the instructions describe.

After trying this dozens of times, I essentially gave up, until on a whim I tried something slightly different, and it worked.

So that's what I want to describe here.

FIRST: The most important thing that most of these relearn-mode threads don't mention, or only mention in passing: When you try to trigger the re-learn mode (using the "hold button for 2 seconds, release for 2 seconds, hold for 2 seconds. release for 2 seconds, hold for 5 seconds" process), YOU WILL KNOW ITS TRIGGERED IF THE TPMS LIGHT STARTS BLINKING RAPIDLY.

There is NO point in trying to activate the sensors unless you see the rapid blinking TPMS light -- do don't waste your time, turn off and try again. Until you realize this you will simply drive yourself crazy trying trying to scan sensors when the car is not ready for them.

SECOND: When people say the relearn mode can be tricky to trigger, it's an understatement. I tried it dozens of times unsuccessfully until i got the fast blinking signifying that it had triggered. Thinking about the cases where I got it to work, here is what I remember: The "2 second" time duration seems wrong -- i think when it worked for me it was quick a bit shorter -- maybe 1 second. Also, my memory is that when i got it to work, it was when the duration the button was pressed in and the duration the button was released were identical. So like "one mississippi in, one mississippi out, one mississippi in, one mississippi out, five mississippi in"..

Bottom line: The timing has to be just exactly right to trigger the re-learn mode, and you should just keep doing it, over and over, until you see the fast blinking, trying to tweak the timing rhythim a bit each time.

Some other quick notes to help you ignore variations suggested in different write-ups of the TPMS instructions: I put car into ON position (one step after ACC, but before starting engine); Parking break not engaged; i used key without keyfob present (though i doubt this matters).

Getting the car into relearn mode is probably the toughest part of the TPMS relearn. After that, there is actually a tool-less way to trigger the sensors. Yes, you can relearn your TPMS for free! And actually even faster than with a tool. ;)
Is there ANY way to sync the Schrader 20087 on a 2010 Suzuki SX4 Without a TPMS Sync tool?
If the sx4's TPMS works similarly to the Kizashi, I believe the same tool-less procedure here should work:

2010 Kizashi tpms

Hello. I have a 2010 kizashi s AWD 16" steel wheels. I had been to many tire places that couldn't do the tpms. I bought 4 tpms sensors on ebay for 50 bucks for all 4, the rubber kind so they dont break like the metal expensive ones. Also I bought ateq vt30 tpms learner. 175 bucks online. I relearned them myself doing manually with the open door sensor on the drivers side. ignition on hold for 3 secs, release and hold for 3 secs, release and hold for 7 seconds. may take a couple times but when it starts blinking nonstop on the dash it ready to learn. I used the ateq vt30 and relearned with no problem. Now i never have to go to the store and pay them. The tire stores cannot bypass the tpms, they have to do it manually through the open door sensor.

Thank you SamirD for research and advises. I have 2010 Kizashi SE and got fairly new tires with the rims from my son's Mazda6speed. After a week after installation and driving on highway the tpms sensor service light came on. I bought ATEQ VT30 service tool and today it was delivered. I tried to reprogram the Mazda’s sensors, but they couldn’t be detected. Long story short, 2007 Mazda6speed doesn’t have tpms and after $167 I still have my annoying warning lights on. My question is: Any way to shut them off?
Thank you,
Emil

To relearn the sensors WITHOUT a tool. First just overfill your tires to 45+ lbs of pressure. Then follow the previous instructions to put the car in relearn mode. Instead of using an expensive tool to trigger the sensors just let at least 5 lbs of pressure from each tire. When the sensors detect a 5+ lbs pressure change they come active without a sensor tool. Simpler and faster than pressing buttons on a sensor tool or trip to the dealer.

This works

Hello, because this thread / forum saved me over $1200 if not more, I feel compelled to keep it current. Long story short - my son wanted new rims on his Suzuki Kizashi (2010). Walmart said they'd fit, we ordered, they didn't. To be nice they put a TPMS sensor on free - great we left. A day later the sensor came on and not only that the TPMS Warning orange huge display came on. I took it back and told them to fix it. They replaced all four sensors with Shrader TPMS's (Spelling my be wrong). I sat at walmart for SEVEN hours while they tried to get the TPMS to read the sensors. He showed me the book that said they'd work with the Kizashi and I googled while I was there that the car needed to be in re-learn mode. He was pushing a black button on the door handle! I said no, it is the button that would turn off the interior light. Still - no luck. I took the car to a higher end tire store, nope, they have trouble with Suzuki and their tool wouldn't read any of the sensors. Called a Suzuki dealership an hour a way -they said minimum $1200 and you cannot use after market sensors. I started reading. And reading. Read some more. Found this thread. We tried for three days to get the car in re-learn mode. Today, I figured every time I passed it I'd try again. I hopped in, key fob with me, foot off the brake, pushed the ignition switch once, then again, opened the door pushed the interior light switch on the drivers inside door, one-two, let go, one-two, let go, one, two, three, four, five. The exclamation with the parenthesis blinked rapidly for the first time out of 31 tries. We let air out of every tire, the large orange display went out, the exclamation with the parenthesis went solid. Put air back in, started car, only the low pressure tire message displayed. We drove for 10 miles and ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE GONE! I honestly felt like I hit the lottery. Some say the hold and release has to be the exact same 2 seconds, it was not true for me. I pushed in for two seconds, but released and immediately pushed again. It was 2-2-5 seconds. I read car had to be in ACC mode, it was not for me. I was a bit confused which light would blink rapidly and what that meant, it is not the orange triangle. It is the exclamation with the parenthesis, we saw it blink - not - blink - not, that is not it. It is blink blink blink. I will update if it comes on again, as I have read this is just an issue with these cars. For now, I am going to bask in my success and thank this thread with every ounce of my being.

The door was open when we saw the light blink rapidly. I am not even kidding when I said I tried 31 times. The time I finally got it I did not over think it - just quickly. Hit that door switch once, let go, twice, let go, again and hold until you see that light blink super quick. We have a kizashi so not sure if its different. So far so good - still haven't seen that light come back on!

Sorry for the long post... here's the question. Does anyone know how to put a Kizashi into TPMS learn mode without a trip to the dealer? The owner's manual does not give instructions.

Thanks.
What I do:
Suzuki S-Cross 2022/23, while i change season wheels and transport changed in back, after time car computer show blinking triangle and show !pneupatic symbol. 1/ unload-store changed wheels (car computer must see only 4 wheels). 2/ this need skils coz on screen are error message Service TPMS: in cardashboard is looong stick, push it that long while error message change to normal view (shoving digit with speed, or some..), but it return to error message after some second, the before that, push looooong stick again while not show menu. 3/ in menu go to TPMS, 4/ change actual TPMS Mode to different ( I change from Comfort TPMS to Load TPMS ), I dont know what Load mean, heavy load in Car ? then.. 5/ Go back to menu and drive on bouled - hopped - up/down road (not flat road, press in pneu must little changing in time) cca 5-10 min 5-10 km ? and blinking triangle get out, !pneumatic symbol too. 6/ return TPMS mode to previous ( I to Comfort TPMS ), after time ( 5 min / 5 km ) you can see also pressure in pneu.
