And is it true that the samurai came with two different types of transmissions? Maybe it's possible yours doesn't contain yellow metals

1) Mobil One full sythetic 75w90
2) No - all manual transmissions with synchromesh gears (meaning made in the last four decades) have "yellow metals" in the synchronizers.

I've changed all the fluids of my 87 samurai and the whining noise is still there in 4th and 5th under acceleration but it seems to stop when i let off the gas. Still searching for a fix, if anyone comes across a possible fix please tell us!

I have a friend of mine that lives about 1000 miles from me and he talks about the same whine in top gears and i keep saying it's probably the transfer case and he keeps insisting it's the rear differential and while i'm a pretty good mechanic he is a better one.LOL
I have a trick i've used for years to locate noises i take about a two and a half foot broom handle rounded off on both ends and put one end of the broom handle to the outside of my inner ear lobe while pressed in and the other half probes where i want to listen for a noise....... try it on your valve cover and the side of your engine and you can hear everything that is going on inside.....going under the vehicle is super risky and i advise against it..... safer would be to use a longer full length broom handle so you are not under the vehicle but safely outside and probe that way...... it does work but please don't go under the vehicle while running the gears or let it hit your spinning driveshaft as you can knock an eye out.

If you can't get it to do the whine because you can't get it under a good load have someone start off in 4th gear and bring up the emergency brake enough to create the whine.... then do your probing
