Use Suzuki sidegears and you will be happier. Less breakage, smoother transitions.
You will be happiest if you can source an early model four pin carrier and then install the lockright with factory sidegears. Trying to modify the 2 pin carrier isn't worth the time or energy.
Thanks for the great advice, I'm really glad I joined this forum.

Just to confirm, the lockright do fit the later model 2-pin carrier, right?

Also, the 2-pin and 4-pint carrier setups, do they apply to both front and rear diffs, front only, or rear only?

It will fit, but it will break. They won't cover it under warranty.
The Samurai rear diff always had the 4-pin carrier, the 2-pin carriers were only found in the later model front differentials.

Is it possible to install a rear carrier into a front diff housing? I guess that will mean having to upgrade the front axle as well to 26 spline, right?

YES! and no.
The 4 pin carriers found in the early models and the rear carriers found in the rear of the later models are identical except for the sidegears so you can install a rear carrier in the front. Replace the sidegears and you won't have to go to the more pricey axles. The article I mentioned earlier (picture of the inside of the carrier) shows exactly how to swap the gears.
Stock Sidegears

If the budget allows, then (as you mentioned above) stay with the 26 spline sidegears and get the upgraded axle shafts.
----------------
And for those of you that are following along, the diffs in the Track/Kicks are a completely different size front to rear. so don't let them confuse you.

Default Sami 4 spider carrier and 4.77 gears

Hey fellows I'm new to this forum. I build jeeps/custom axles most of the time.
main and Home
Right now I'm working on a Sami 3rd member that my customer brought me a few of to rebuild, reseal set up gears...
What I'm running into is..I have a 3rd that has the 4 pin/spider and a lockrite and 4.10 gears. With the 4.10s the ring gear itself retains the cross pins for the spiders, however when I swapped in the 4.77 gears, the new ring gear allows the cross pins to move out of the diff a good amount 3/8" or better and the pins even hit the pinion gear. Are these incorrect gears or is there a way of retaining the cross pins? Everything sets up correctly with the new gears, but they just don't retain the pins?
Suggestions?

Josh

Some of the zook vendors sell a conversion kit that addresses that problem exactly! It happens the same way when we swap out the sammy 3.73 gears for track/kick 4.86's and 5.12's. The swap kit contains a 'can' (sleeve) that slides over the diff to hold in the pins, and a spacer to offset the whole thing as you adjust the bearings.

Look for Carrier Pin Retaining Cans in this example at low Range Off Road.

Default One more question

Just got the ring from Lowrange Off road, fit perfect, got it all set up.

The second diff I needed to install a lockrite in had a mini Spool inside the diff.
Rats, now I need 2 OE side gears and cross block for the older style 4 pin case. This one as it turns out has a LROR ring on it already. Sweet.

Any thoughts?

Josh

A few of the more well known (and respected) Zook vendors also have a large stock of new and quality used parts. Check them out, they probably have the parts on the shelf.
