Lowering and alloys?

Hi guys im new to the forum, have a 02 3dr iggy 1.3 which i love drive it like a maniac, now ive got a job and money looking to treat her to some sparkley wheels,

been looking at some sites and says i can get 17" wheels not to sure as no one on this site seems to have 17s on a non sport? as far as i can tell clearence shouldnt be a problem cause my babe doesnt have the sport arches? any comments?

also thinking of lowering slightly? 20mm or so? although concerned alot of people saying it makes the ride really bumpy, drive to work is already on country roads is the improvment of handling worth it?

hope to hear from you guys, also any other addition ideas are welcome?
