Default Overdrive on or off for better mpg?

Hi,
There's no difference in the way my parents' Y- reg Ignis runs whether the O/D is on or off.
Rev counter and performance don't appear to change one way or another.

For better mpg, should I have the dashboard O/D light be on or off?

Thanks,
Richard

The over drive should be engaged (dashboard light - off). This is the fourth gear and could provide better mpg.

yes you will notice that your engine revs higher with o/d off that equals more gas being wasted turn o/d on and you will be driving in what can be described simply as the next gear up.
the taller the gear the less the rpm and unless you are pulling a hill od is best left on turning it off tends to stop the tranny from gear hunting on a hill. if you dont notice it doing this leave it on. less work for the engine. remember rpms are what eats gas

Many thanks for the replies.
I'll make sure I have O/D on.
