Default Yellow Steering Wheel warning light

So I was driving down the road this morning when I heard a Loud POP, then my yellow steering wheel warning light came on. Anybody have any clues what could have happened? I just got my oil changed yesterday, and she only has 48,000 miles on her.

Some sort of an airbag failure perhaps?

Hmm possible, the driver side airbag has been ever since I bought it so I didnt think anything of it, now when I start from a cold start outside, the Passenger airbag warning light will come on until the car warms up, is this the norm as well? I'd hate to have this car breakdown, just had it a year. My old Nissan I had had 150,000 miles on it and didnt have a single problem with it. I hope this Suzuki would be the same.

I have no idea what is "normal" - airbags are not required here, and none of my Suzukis have them - on the other hand, I do know that a "yellow steering wheel warning light" is defintely NOT normal, and the only thing that I can think of is the driver's side front airbag - which is why I said perhaps, it's a suggestion rather than a statement.

it has to do with the speed sensitive steering system

You most likely need a steering angle sensor. Have the SSPS system scanned for codes-more than likely they will find a code 6 (w/Suzuki 10 meg card) or C0006 (w/ GM 32 meg card). Colder weather tends to bring on high resistence from the sensor. It IMO doesn't affect the steering that much on these cars anyway, but the light will probably keep coming and going until the sensor is addressed. The scan will confirm this for sure, though.

it is a speed steering sensor, mine does the same thing, dont take it to the dealer because they will want $400 to fix it...when i called they said that it was becoming common for that light to turn for our cars, but it is not a recall....funny how things work huh?

Ok my light comes on intermittently, the guy at the stealership told me 2k to put a new one in, yea that'll happen

I call my grandfather in Syracuse since I know some people down here but hes been around so long up there he knows almost everyone, his friend whos a parts guy at a Suzi dealership said he'd put money on it being in the wiring not the sensor, since they've NEVER replaced one its all been wiring and faulty connectors. He said to get a q-tip with some electric connection cleaner and try to clean and see if it goes away.

Its right at the base of the steering column right before it goes through the fire wall.

I haven't had a chance to do mine since its either been a downpour or 15 degrees, gotta love upstate NY
