No idea, audio amps can suck a lot of power I would be careful what wires you tap into or you could cause electrical issues with the car's various systems, I would talk to one of those places that does custom installations like Car Toys they should be able to give you advice on how to get it installed.
Thanks for the suggestion and I agree that you could have electrical problems. I was hoping someone had success hooking up an amp with this particular radio and wondered how they wired it. I would definitely not do it if it's a big job. I think I was quoted well over $100 just to install an amp (not including the cost of the amp) which seems pricey but maybe that's the norm. Maybe I should go to another car stereo installer for a different quote.
To fit any amp you ideally need at least 1 pre out which would only power a sub.
If there is a 2 pre outs then you can increase the power to the speakers.
In either installation you need about 18swg cable to run direct from battery to power the amp and i would suggest a power cap to as the batteries on these cars are low powered.
Now without knowing the model of your stereo you also need a remote wire from the stereo to the amp to be able to switch it on and off.
If your wanting to power your speakers you will need to run a speaker cable to each speaker as the factory fit wont be able to handle it and the clarity will be comprimised.
If your wanting to fit a sub woofer then this would be a lot easier to do.
Thanks for letting me know how to wire an amp and it's for a sub only, not the car speakers. I figured you might know the how to wire it for this particular radio that's in the car because it's the factory cd player (made by Clarion) that were in the 2002 Esteems. Unless these cd players were only for the Canadian market and the Esteems sold elsewhere like in the USA had different factory radios.
Ok, i've had a look around and i cant find the exact model number, if you know how to pull out the stereo that would be a great help as the code is on top of the unit.
