Unhappy Suzuki Baleno Fog/Horn Issues

Hi,

I have recently bought a R reg 98 Suzuki Baleno 1.6 16v GS Sport for my girlfriend. I love the car but am having a few issues with the following:

I change the bulbs in the front fog lights (mission) and tested them as I put them in one buy one. The right worked fine then I put the left in and it seems to have cocked things up. The rear fog switch by the steering wheel "buzzes" when I press it and it, for some reason it turns the green light of the front fog button sligtly blue. Neither the front fogs or the rear fogs work now. All fuses have been checked refering to fogs in engine bay and under steering wheel. Has anyone else encountered this?

Also, I am having problems with the horn. Both horn units buzz when connected to 12v, the relay ion engine bay fires on button press but there is not sound.

Are these comon issues or has someone tried to fudge an alram system and messed things up.

M

P.S Does anyone else have a brown wire going from one headlight to the other via the front of the radiator? It seems like a rough suspitions piece of wiring!!

Hi welcome to the forum,

I have had similar problems with my Baleno,

The headlights where the same I had a red wire from the p/side to the d/side when i investigated it further what had happened was the d/side wire had lost connection to the bulb so instead of fixing it they took the lazy option and by-passed it.

Yet if they had bothered to check the wiring about 3" from the bulb they would have found that the wire had corroded and swelled so i re traced it back to the inner wing and put a fresh wire in - removing the bodge up accross the rad.

The horns seem to suffer with poor earth connections, i had a direct feed from the neg battery to the horns which did work but looked messy, so i cleaned the terminals on the original connections and it worked briefly this is an on going problem and i need to investigate it further, but at least i know whats causing them to not work properely.

hope you find this info useful as for the fogs sorry i can't help you there but i can only assume its a similar earthing problem if they are original ones then the harness plug is behind the p/side headlight

Default Thanks for the reply and welcome

Many thanks, I will relay this message to my mechanic (father) and will update when we have check the main earth points. Are there many earth points in the car and what do you think of the Buzzing rear fog switch? Cold this boil down to the earth.

Kind Regards...

No worries, i'm still learning about the car as ive only had mine a month or so, but so far i have only found 3 earth points in the engine bay.

the head light issue maybe positive and not a negative problem as mine was...

As for the buzzing rear fog switch it sounds like it could be a sticky relay?? try swapping the relay and see if that cures your problem

Default fog lights

I don't know if this info will help you, here in the colonies we have the Esteem and they only have front fog lights, in reading your letter, i see that your Baleno's have rear fog lights, must get foggier than snail snot !
Power is supplied to the fog lights in this fashion :
A. Ground or Earth Ground is supplied to the Negative input to the fog light, Positive is supplied to both of the fog lights via a BLU/RED wire from a relay, this relay receives its source voltage from a 25 amp fused connection.
The operating voltage for this relay receives its source voltage from the Fog Light switch via a LT GRN/RED wire.
In the fog light switch, there is an indicator bulb, the indicator bulb is lit, when the fog light switch is pressed in the on position, the indicator bulb receives its source voltage via a BLU/BLK wire directly from the RHS headlight, this wire is fused at 15 amps.
The Fog Light switch receives operating voltage from fog light relay # 2 via a ORN wire.
Voltage is supplied to fog light relay # 2 via a BLU wire from the Day Time Running Lamp Controller (DRL).
Operating voltage for fog light relay # 2 is via a RED/WHT wire from the RHS and LHS headlights.
i hope this helps 1998 - 2001 esteem wiring manual
