Default Baleno rebuild

My Baleno, a 1.6GS in white with a dealer fitted body kit, leather interior and alloys is in the process of being rebuild following contact with a Deer! it didn't survive & you could say nor did my car. Damage is Front bumper cracked all over, N/S headlamp destroyed, radiator dented, but not leaking! Anyways, I will be fitting a new alternator and cambelt before getting the car back on the road. I would like a manual but cannot find one anywhere, so can anybody tell me how the alternator is removed? it seems a bit reluctant to come out from behind the engine. Also can I get a computer hook up cable and some software for my laptop to do diagnostics on the car?
So in summary I would like information on;
1) how to change the Alternator?
2) how to change the cambelt?
3) if its possible to do my own computer diagnostic/error code reads?

Thanks in advance to all.

Hi,

Check out my website you will find your answers: http://home.comcast.net/~retrocruiser/99suzuki/

The BELTS section will have the procedures for changing the cam (timing) belt, and the ENGINE section will have the procedures for removing the alternator.

Yes you can do your own computer diagnostic/error code reads, you will need to buy or borrow an OBD-II code reader, the connector is under the dash under the steering column, plug the cable in and then turn on the ignition after approx 5-6 seconds it will establish a link with the engine computer.

Sorry about your (and the deer's) bad luck.

Jim,
Thanks for that, had a quick look at your pages, but not sure which way the alternator comes out. Does it come out of the top or bottom, it's such a tight place, also thats the drivers side for me!. You say I need an OBD-II code reader! I was hoping all I needed to purchase was a cable, one end connection for the car the other a USB for the laptop, then run a program, source as yet unknown, to read the codes etc... Any idea where I can get a cable from. This is the way I did diags on my Alfa Romeo 156.
Many Thanks
Tony

The alternator will come out the top.

I have no idea where to get the cable or software, I know that stuff like that is out there but I just bought on OBD-II reader and called it done.

We got the alternator out, but it's impossible to get it out of the top due to the brake servo & cylinder being in the way, it actually came out from under the wheel arch, a fiddle but it was the only route. This is a very slow job and is taking a time to complete because we probably work on it for a very short time once every 2 weeks. anyways, Thanks for your replies everybody.
