Default Stalling while slowing to stop

01 Esteem 1.8 155K miles....in the past 2 weeks, my car has decided that it wants to stall every time I am about to stop. Just replaced my air filter this weekend, and it helped just a teeny tiny bit. Plugs were replaced in March, oil has been changed regularly. When I took the car in for tires last year, I asked if I should have a tune up and they told me that no, cars don't need tune ups any more....of course, i thought the guy was nuts, but I still walked out with only new tires. Any suggestions? My budget is pretty slim, but want to keep the car on the road since it's paid off! Pretty much all highway miles on it, it's been a great car so far.

Thanks!

Does it idle to low? or is it just running bad? Mine likes to idle low sometimes, especially when just reaching full temp, if I sit there the idle will slowly return to normal and never do it again until the next day. May be the idle air control valve?

These cars do need a tune up of sorts, plugs, it doesn't have wires but it has those boots that reach down to the plug, I guess they could go bad.
Air filter and PCV valve, thats all that comes to mind, I use fuel system cleaner and gas drier at every oil change.

Is the Check Engine Light on? If it is then you need to get the codes read. You may have a faulty Idle Switch or IAC.

EW EW EW DONT TOUCH THE IDLE!!.....Its set from the factory, and if you do the computer will keep trying to compansate for the rich mixture sending your MPG right out the window........Sounds like a dirty IAC motor.......This can be cleaned by removing the throttle body and using some good carb cleaner and a Q-Tip........dont remove any "special screws" though.
