A solid lifter, one that is adjustable is not the type that generally can stick and make loud noises. A hydraulic lifter can do that, especially in cold temps when the oil is thick.
Adjusting the solids is easy; start with any cylinder, number one is good, rotate the engine until all the valves are closed (the cam follower is on the base circle and not the lobe), this occurs at TDC of the power stroke, using a feeler gauge of the specified thickness (see manual) check the gap, it should be a slight drag, if not adjust it. It doesn't have to be perfect, the manual specifies the range, plus or minus .001" should be fine. Rotate each cylinder to TDC of the power stroke and repeat. Note the EX and In valves have different gaps.
