Default 2000 esteem transmission

Hi,

Just got an Esteem 2000 1.6L engine with 5 speed manual trans.
The trans is making a loud noise ( like a broken tooth.. Klank, klank) in first gear and less noise in all the rest.

I would like to replace the tranny and not fix it.
Does the Suzuki Swift 1.3L engine have the same tranny? or the Geo metro? or any other model?

There aren't many Esteem's here.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi,

Is the transmission oil level up where it should be? If you don't know where the filler plug is go here: http://home.comcast.net/~lj_robins/p..._oil_plugs.jpg

That clang may be something in your clutch assembly that is broken, like maybe one of the fins in the pressure plate, or the throw out bearing. On that note it may not be the transmission at all and could be that your CV-Joints have gone bad.

I'm not sure what would be compatible with your car, call the junk yards they can tell you what other cars have a transmission that will work.

Thanks for your reply.

When I press on the clutch the noise goes away. The sound also changes frequency with the different gears and in fifth you can't hear much.

Still would like to know if the Swift and Geo tranny would fit.

Default noisy clutch

According to the factory manual here are some possibilities.
1. cracked clutch disc.
2. damaged release bearing.
3. damaged pressure plate .
4. inoperative release mechanism.
5 cracked or damaged flywheel.
need more info ? send contact info and i will send info as requested for 1.6 liter esteem tony
