Where is the 2nd fuse box?

Hey.

I'm trying to locate the radio fuse and cannot find the box. There is one on the driver's side under the hood and according to the manual, there should be another under the dash driver's side. But i can't find it!

The reason i'm looking in the first place is this: when everything is shut down, the radio display is still lit. No digits appearing, but the whole display glows a bit. Hadn't noticed until a few months back. Now, i had to change the alternator about a month ago, then the battery died a week later and the last few days, it has trouble starting, even with the new battery. Nights are getting colder (-18 C), but i never had this trouble before, even at -30 C. Could this radio display thing be draining the battery?

Thanks for any help.

Ya, it's a little black box. Should be able to find it with a flashlight. As far as the display goes I don't really know. I know there is always power to the radio to keep the clock going. Perhaps if the radio isn't stock it's using that power supply for the display as well? Best to take the fuse out though and see if the problems continue. Then maybe take the radio out and test the cables with a voltmeter while the car is turned off.

Like everyone said, the fuse box is located under the driver side dash. It's hidden way in the right rear part of the dash. you will need a flashlight in order to see it. If the fuse box has the cover on, you will need to remove the cover. Use a flat head screw driver for this.

It sounds like you have a short somewhere. Did you get an aftermarker stereo installed? If so, recheck all of your wires.

Cheers!

To find the other fuse box (in US cars) get on your back and slide underneath the steering column and look straight up on the left hand side of the steering shaft clear up at the top of everything you will see it there, and as someone else said you will need a flashlight.

The reason the back light is coming on is because that is on a separate circuit from the power that makes the radio functional, a majority of the lights on the dash are all run from the head light switch.

Maybe an auto electrician???

Lights that are not working can be caused by a number of things, blown bulbs & fuses are the simple ones, once you've checked those, you're getting into more complex territory, relays, if the vehicle and particular circuit uses them, wiring & switches, if you don't have the tools & knowledge, that's when you get professional help.

The cluster light is fed from the same fuse/switch as the sidelights, so if the sidelights are working, you may have a failed dimmer (if fitted), which is not uncommon, or the bulbs (there are several) may have gone, also not uncommon. Fog lights are on their own circuit, with a separate fuse.

Quite seriously though, we have no way to judge your experience or equipment levels, you have to know your limitations, and know when to call a friend to help, or decide to pay a pro.

The battery could be dead???

Seriously - if the entire system has shutdown - the battery would be my first suspect.

Now - start your own thread in the Reno forum (there is a link to it in the forum list in the upper left) and when you do, be realistic with what you're asking, no one here has a crystal ball.
