Suzuki Baleno - Power and Knocking Issue

Hi Everyone,

I have a 2001 Suzuki Baleno and up until last week it ran perfectly.

The last time I drove it I noticed that rather than it's normal smooth acceleration it started to surge. Rather than more power, the power was sluggish in spots and the power delivery was intermittent

This occured not only from take off but also in 2nd and 3rd.

Today when I drove my Baleno I heard a knocking noise from the front of the car. This only occured when I was driving in a straight line and when accelerating. This is the first time I have heard this noise!

Has anyone experienced this before or does anyone have any suggestions??

Your timing is slightly out.(how long ago did you change your timing belt. if its more than 100000 than its time to change, if its very recently them it will disappear if advance your distributer) or a expert adjust it with a timing light.

Hi Vincent,

I have not changed the timing belt, I have had the car for around 40,000 and it is now sitting on 140,000.

I am unsure what work the previous owner carried out.

Funnily enough, when driving home from work yesterday the noise dissappeared and the power was even again.

I used to drive the car on a daily basis but since getting my motorbike I only drive it once a week. The last time I started it was around 5 days prior to yesterday. Yesterday was an extremely cold morning as well.

This morning I warmed the engine for around 5 minutes before putting any load on it and it behaved perfectly again.

If it is the timing belt would it contstantly behave badly?

Suzuki Sidekick/ Geo Tracker not sure which Anyway, I just did a searched the net for this exact problem, lucky I found it here.

I have a knocking (like 2 really quick knocks) when I accelerate.. It has good power and acceration throughout, but who knows, could be better if it is timing.

I did a coolant drain recently, and I started overheating today, and found it needed more coolant. I also noticed that some of the old green coollant came to the surface. I thought I had it all pressured out but I guess not. I hope I have scored a cyllinder, not even sure if that makes sense, as Im not a mechanic.

Mixed coolants, is that bad, detrimental or a non issue?

how is your acceleration on the highway? does it have poor acceleration all the time or just while in the gears listed? if so it could be a catalytic converter problem.
