Thumbs up

Ok, I am letting you know now this is a weird post. It is also going to be a long post.

I am part of a mechanical and electrical engineering group of students working on a large group project. Our project is to model the 1996 Suzuki Esteem motor and controls.

This car was chosen for 2 reasons - (1) a local salvage yard had 2 exact cars that they donated to the project, and (2) other teams have already done Honda's, Mazda's and a few others.

Most of the electrical team will work on creating a micro-controlled system to provide the smarts to emulate the sensors needed for feedback to the ECU. They will also use this system to read the "information" comming from the ECU.

We are using the factory ECU to make sure our simulation hardware is working right. If our hardware fails, or if our simulation software (running in the hardware) fails, it will cause a OBD error just like a real engine. We can then read these errors to help find out what we did wrong in the hardware, or the simulation software.

My part of this project is to interface the ECU to a PC. I am using a ELM based OBD-II ISO-ISO9141/14230 reader chip (ELM 323) to connect the ECU to the PC's serial port. I have made the OBD-II reader, but have yet to test it with our ECU. To finish this part I need information on the wireing diagram for the ECU. I know a few of the pins, but not all of them.

The second part of my task is provide information on the wiring of the ECU. I am looking for any information on the ECU. This would include pin-outs, car wiring diagrams, and any other information that could be handy to provide the other part of the team.

Here is all the information on the ECU that was provided to us from the salvage yard:

6J
1.6 US AT
33920-61G10
1120000-3620
12V
Denso Japan
*203620D*

This ECU also has 3 green connectors. From looking at the side with the connectors, it has a 22 connector, 16 connector, and a 26 connector plugs.

It will be the job of the mech. group to try and provide the actual modeling of the motor. They will take the signals from the ECU and other sensors (being faked by the micro-controller system), to simulate the Esteem's motor. We have a salvage yard car that is running (smashed all to bits, but it does run) to poke and test on. The mechnical group even has a spare motor they will take apart to help with their simulation equations. The electrical group can also use this test car to see how diffrent sensors function. We will need to know this to figure out what kind of inputs and outputs our hardware will need to have.

SO if you have any information on this ECU that you could share, we would love to hear from you. If you can provide ECU pinouts, or anything else relating to this project we would also like to hear from you. If you know of any sensors that have strange outputs, please also let us know!

Thanks in advance from the whole team! We are basiclly going to make a virtural 1996 Suzuki Esteem - and we welcome any help you can provide.
