Just changed engines in a 2001 esteem, the swap went off flawlessly and the new engine ran great. Drove it around about a week, then when it was idling, it just quit. No noise, no sputter, just like turning the key off. I noticed there were no **** lights on the dash when the key was on, but yet the starter works fine. I found the 20 amp fuse under the dash for the ignition blown, and it blows every new fuse like a flashbulb every time I turn the key. I checked under the hood for any wire that may have gotten tangled in the axles, pullys, pinched, etc, but everything is normal. I suspect the problem is unrelated to the engine swap- my guess is the ignition switch, the guy who owns the car suspects the fuel pump. Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else? Thanks in advance.

Got the problem figured out, and it was related to the engine swap. I bought a 20 amp breaker to put in place of the fuse until I could get the short fixed. Seems like the breaker let the circuit stay on for a few seconds, instead of the immediate pop of the fuse, which showed the short- the O2 sensor was shorted. Would have never gussed it ever, except the car's owner was looking under the hood when I turned the key, and saw a wisp of smoke come out of it before the breaker popped. I swapped the O2 from the other engine and it works fine. Got real lucky on this one. On closer inspection, looked like the junkyard engine's O2 got smacked a little in the wreck it apparently was in, or the sensor got smashed a little when it was being removed or shipped. In either case, got it working.
