This is my first suzuki too. I partially bought it because my best friend is a Suzuki tech and more likely because it was a good find. 2002 aerio with 78000 pretty hard miles on her for $1000. I had to tow it home. I will post pictures after it is painted.
So far it needs a wheel bearing , the front bumper is cracked, the rest of the body has dents and scratches, the bumper cap is missing, it needs tires, the check engine light is on, the manual trans or engine is leaking a bit, the oil was a half quart low , the replacement radio was hacked in , and who knows what else. It does start and move but not well. The interior is very clean and there is no rust.
I will know by the end of next week how much more it needs.

hi there
well finally replaced the wheel bearing on the drivers side, but o be honest the car still makes the same noise, the problem is we are sure its not the passenger side, so what could it be, the noise gets louder at about 60 and then seems to go at about 70, i would like to try another car but as yet have not seen another to try
your help would be appreciated
Ivan
Get both front wheels in the air by putting it up on floor jacks or stands. rotote each wheel and listen for noise.not just in the wheel bearings but in the cv joints. put it in park or gear .grab each axle and twist each direction. you will feel the transmission ,where it holds the wheel . now twist the other way and feel for play . you should have less than 1/2 inch. if you feel play , either a cv axle is going bad or a final drive bearing in the transmission. if the noise is a droning or whining i would think its in the trans. if it is a grinding or intermittent , i would think its in the axle.

hi thanks
yes we have done this and thats why we dont think it is the wheel bearing on the passenger side, will try the CV joints, hope it is not the gearbox, are these cars generally quite

I have not driven my car over 40 mph because it does not have license plates or insurance yet. I have 2 corollas which have almost an identical axle setup. describe in detail the noise it is making.
remember that 02-04 aerios have a defect in the gearbox of manual transmissions . Is yours a manual ? I assume it is. you said gearbox. The axles slip and fall out of the transmissions because the retaining clips are not strong enough and it damages the final drive bearing on the drivers side. In addition , the syncros are not very strong so when changing gears you can damage them. so if your car whines at speeds of 60 mph i would think it is in the gears. have you changed the fluid ?
again if it is a manual, it could be the release bearing in the clutch vibrating, but your symptoms are not pointing that way.

the noise is very similar to a wheel bearing we changed the drivers side as that seemed to have more noise then the other side, however when we took it out there did not appear to be anything wrong with the bearing, i am reluctant to change the other side as the noise does not appear to be coming from there,
the gearbox is a manual so the cheapest first step might be to change the passanger side just in case and check the CV joints, i think having changed one side the the noise is reduced have also changed the tyres as i thought a couple of them appeared to be out of shape, do you think it is worth changing the gear box oil just in case
mine is a 2005, in the UK it is a GLX which comes with a body kit, alloy wheels as standard
thanks again for your help
Yes by all means change the fluids .your gearbox might be dirty and not getting lubricated properly. type bitog.com and learn a lot about oils.
I do not know how many miles you have on the car ,but the bearings are another weak point on this series of cars.the other bearing is suspect. tire noise /belt seperation/ bent wheels / are always a possibility too.

the car has only done 34,000 miles so i think i need to try the other wheel
thanks Ivan

help still needed car still making a wheelbearing type noise, have changed all four tyres, the wheels(alloy) are stright, have changed both front wheel bearings and gearbox oil as suggested, i do not think it is the gearbox as only done 350000 miles, is the liana/aerio particulary noisey or have i missed something, bot rear wheel bearings are ok, it driving me mad
