Default Key Fob for Aerio 2004

I've got two key fobs that no longer work. Tried replacing the batteries, but no luck. Went into the dealership and they checked them out and said they're busted. They want $150 for a new one.

Are there any other options, other than "yeah, use your key." :P

First I would ask if both transmitters are not providing an RF output, they have a special tool to measure the signal strengh for any remote. If neither one puts out a signal (assuming that the battery was replaced), then replace the transmitters. The relearn procedure is not difficult and does not require any special tools to activate them. This is what you do if you are doing it yourself.

If transmitter / door lock controller is replaced with a new one or additional transmitter(s) is necessary, program transmitter code(s).
1)Confirm that all doors are closed and ignition key is out of ignition key cylinder
2)Open driver side door.
3)Insert ignition key into ignition key cylinder within 10 seconds after step 2).
4)Remove ignition key from ignition key cylinder within 10 seconds after step 3).
5)Push and release driver side door switch (1) 3 times by hand within 20 seconds after step 4).
6)Insert ignition key into ignition key cylinder within 10 seconds after step 5).
7)Remove ignition key from ignition key cylinder within 10 seconds after step 6).
8)Press and hold “LOCK” and “UNLOCK” buttons (2) on transmitter (3) for 5 seconds or more within 20 seconds after step 6) and confirm that all doors are operated from lock to unlock.
9)Press “LOCK” or “UNLOCK” button (2) transmitter (3) within 5 seconds after step 8) and confirm that all doors are operated from lock to unlock.
With this process, transmitter code has been programmed.
10)If you want to program the additional transmitter, repeat the procedure from Step 1) through Step 9).
11)Make sure that keyless entry system properly operates by operating programmed transmitter(s).

Great, thanks for the reply!

I wish they would have tested the signal strength when I went in. All they tried to do was reprogram it. I guess I'll have to go back and have them test it.

If I need to replace the transmitter, do I need to buy it through the dealership, or is there a cheaper alternative?

The Keyless entry module will only recognize factory transmitters. If it is the remote than you will no choice but to order one thru them. Since the directions on how to program them is available on this thread, then you can do it yourself and save the battery on the bad one when you need to replace without having to buy another battery.
