This means that my car has to sit in the shop for 5 days Waiting! ...and it all started with a little rattle...

Does this price sound reasonable to anyone that knows about the exhaust system?
Ya sounds like a great deal i just called suzuki for a new catalytic converter they want 657 just for the part. So I have two questions 1. does anyone know where you can get this part cheaper. 2. I remember kids in school running straight pipes off there cars now i am not saying i want to do this but if i was to deal with the rattling noise for awhile is it really that important to change the cat i mean besides enviornmental issues of poluted exhaust. With the economy and my recent job loss its pretty rough right now to do anything.

Thanks
Mike

are you running a cat code? if so your still under 80k so it should be covered under the governments warranty.

yeah you don't really need the 2nd cat. it is after the both 02 sensors. the first cat is a different story. You won't past a visual exhaust check. but i have been running with 2nd cat for a while now with no problem.

Ya im not sure wheather it is the first or second cat. It doesent rattle all the time either just sometimes when the ac is on or if i am going up a large hill but it sounds like rocks in a coffe can thats why i believe it to be the cat. Yet no codes have come up aslong as it doesent affect the cars well being not having one of the cats not working i am deffinetly going to leave it alone for now. Because as far as state inspection i have one more year. Plus i live in jersey so its not to hard to just buy a sticker. But two cats that would really suck replacing both i mean thats like 1200 just in parts if there like 600 each. So in closing what would you do just drive it as is or is it worth it to fix. Also if it is the main cat is that woarse then the other I dont know much about this department.
Thnaks,
Mike

personally i would try to fix it. but first i would get under the car and pry and shake the the cats and the heat shields to see if there is any rocks behind it or noise. then maybe pull the cats and look at them make sure they are intact. iff there is still a noise i would turn the car on and try to recreate the noise then fix it. if all else fails i would just live with it.
