Question Service Engine light

Hello all, My name is monique, I have had my aerio for two years now. It is a 2004 and has 40k miles on it. It has been a wonderful, low maintenance car. About 7 days ago the service engine light came on and the dealership wants to charge 100.00 just to tell me whats wrong. The car is still running the same as always, there does not seem to have anything wrong. Whats the deal? Should I take it to another mechanic? non dealer? Any help would be appreciated. If there is anyone esle with an aerio can you tell me hown often you do tune ups on your car? thanks

If the car was running OK, it may be a false reading.

If you remove one of the battery leads for about 30 minutes and the reconnect, this should reset the computer and the light should then go out.

If the light does not come back on, then it was a clitch in the system.

If it returns then you will have to take it to a service centre for the codes to be read, and the fault corrected.

Regards

Hi Monique! I have a 2003 Aerio SX (77,000 miles). My service light came on two days ago. I went to Autozone and they checked my car (for free) with their sensor reader. It said "P2025". They gave me a fuel injector cleaner ( this one is not free) that I put in my gas tank. After the third driving the light was no longer lit.
I would recommend that you go to car place like Autozone, Pepboys et al. They will check your car for free with their sensor reader and take it from there. With the engine light coming on could mean different things.
In NY, they would not pass your inpection if the engine light is on.

Good luck!

My 05 aerio's Check Engine Light came on once and autozone check it for free. The error code was a familiar one to the autozone employee and he told me that my gas cap was loose. Sure enough it was! I tightented the cap and he reset the computer and whala problem fixed!! Cost = $0.00 + trip to autozone. Note: The tool they used is called an OBD2 error code reader. It hooks up to OBD2 Port under the drivers side console on the 05 aerio. OBD2 = On Board Diagonstic (2 for 2nd Generation). Hope that helps you.

Thumbs up thank you

Thanks for the info, my boyfriend brought an OBD 2 home from work, used it on my car, called me an idiot and fixed it. My gas cap was loose as well. Glad I didn't pay the dealer 85$ to test it. Thanks again

Hi, I got this P2025 also on my 2003 Aerio (90,000 miles). It is very could around here right now (0 fahrenheit or lower). It seems for Suzuki there is a problem with the cold temperature. I found there is a TSB on this:

Engine Controls - MIL ON/DTC P2025 Set
Section Title: Engine
TSB No. TS 07 12065
Division: Automotive
Category: Technical
SUBJECT: MIL ON DTC P2025
MODEL(S): AERIO (RH420)
YEAR: 2003
CONDITION: In extreme cold climates, the MIL may be ON when the engine is started. The DTC P2025 will be stored in the ECM.

CAUSE: ECM Software Logic
CORRECTION: Using the appropriate service manual, verify the DTC using the troubleshooting chart. If no cause for the DTC is found, reprogram the ECM by using the instructions listed below. Then clear the DTC from the ECM memory.
