Default Gear shift sticks on an automati

I have a 2002 Suzuki Aerio automatic. What would cause my gear shift to stick when trying to go from park to drive? I have noticed that when it does this hitting the brakes really hard will let you push the button to shift to drive.

your transmission is probably locking. I have the same problem with mine. my driveway has a slight slope to it. Just pull the parking brake up after you put it into park but before you left off the brake. and than when you want to go push your brakes and let off the parking brake.
