Say there,
Has anyone else had a problem with their Aerio paint jobs? I have a 2003 SX and am horrified by the amount of paint that has flaked off. I'm thinking that if this is a common problem, the dealer would be willing to set me up with a tube of touch-up (or maybe 3 or 4 tubes!) gratis.

(Otherwise, I love my Aerio. It rules.)

Thoughts?

I've found that the paint on my '05 Techno Blue SX chips very easily as well. It sucks worse, being dark-ish blue. Iin the future, I will remember to buy light colored cars, or else ones with more durable paint.

Hey guys!

There is actually a recall out on early 2003 and prior aerios...Mine missed by 3 days (whew!) and my paint job is beautiful. You can find info on the recall by punching in you vehicle info at www.partsamerica.com (murrays/CSK auto parts website) or by calling a suzuki dealer.

Good luck!

How do you see the paint recall on partsamerica? I've put in "2003 Suzuki Aerio SX", and have only seen the Windshield recall. I even tried 2002 Aerio models.

FYI,

The windshield recall is the paint recall. The windshield is glued to the paint, so if the paint does not adhere, the windshield might pop out in an accident.

If your car was actually defective, you would have noticed it in 2002-2003... the paint would come off in big junks while just washing the car. If you stuck a strip of masking tape on the paint, all of the paint down to the primer would come off when the tape is removed.

In Canada, the dealers have a list of the specific VIN's that are effected, and which dealer took delivery of the vehicle.

Your dealer can run your VIN to see if the recall applies. If it does, the dealer will do a scratch test on the cowl under the plastic trim at the base of the windshield. A cross hatch pattern will be cut into the paint using an razor knife, a strip of special tape will be placed over the scratched area, then removed. Based on how much paint comes off with the tape, the dealer will know if the paint is defective. If the paint is ok, the dealer will seal up the area where the test was done to prevent corrosion.
