Angry Similiar problems

(greets from the newbie)

I'm running a 2006 Aerio Premium.. I've had the car less than four months and already the *front* tires are nearly worn out. I had the guy doing my rotation call me over and show me. The back tires are pristine; the front tires remind me of my first stick-shift car (was that a burnout? whoops!)

At 11k miles, that is ridiculous. I happen to build cars for Honda and while I appreciate that the megacorps tend towards cheaper products to save profit, this seems somewhat extreme. No mechanical issues found, just excessive/unexplained wear.

I'll be following Limey's road and contacting Yokohama after putting a call into the dealership, just to see if they want to say anything about it.. just over 90 days and the tires are worn down sounds like no-repeat business to me.

I am driving the Suzuki Liana 1.6 (=Aerio) in Holland, it's front wheel drive.
Last year I also had to replace the rear tires (after 20.000 km).
In Holland the Liana's run on Yokohama A460.
I have replaced the rear tires with Michelin Pilot Exalto PR2.
The car-dealer also did the re-alignment of the rear tires.
For the tires we split the costs between the car-dealer and me, so i paid only € 135,- for one tire.

Has the TSB on the 2006 AWD Aerio made a difference at all. The new wheel alignment specs and the new viscous coupling?

Help me out here. Is this a problem that if you own a 2006 Aerio AWD you are guaranteed to have this tire wear problem? Is it that predictable

For all the hits (5000+) on this topic its obvious that many people are concerned with this tire wear issue. Has the TBS corrected it? This forum appears to be dead on any response on this issue.

justicecenter,

Not every 04-06 Aerio will experience the tire wear issue, only the ones at the ouside limit of the original rear toe spec (and even then, it's not every car). If there is an issue, it will usually show up by 10-12,000km's as excessive wear on the outside edge of one, or both of the rear tires.

Adjusting the rear toe to the new spec (2.6mm +/- 2mm) will fix the issue for sure. I'd recommend setting it as close the the minimum spec (0.6mm toe in) as possible.

Thanks Tim. Been waiting for a responce on this issue. Dealer here in UPSTATE NEW YORK has 3 new left over 2006 Aerio sedans and I wanted to hear from people if this TSB corrected the problem.

HI, I have a 2005 Arieo rear tires have worn out twice in 15000 miles, I had to repair it myself, after trying to get dealer to repair it twice. I took it and had the wheels aligned all around by an Independant Tire Dealer. Everything is fine now. I've been trying to get Suzuki and or the dealer to pay for this repair, but to no avail as yet. Please keep me posted as to what happens with your dealer or suzuki. Thanks

The wife and I own a 2004 Suzuki SX Manual 5 speed. Tire wear. We have about 85k on the car and on our third set of tires. The tires wear on one side severely and don't let anyone tell you its the tires. We did wheel alignments and tire rotations and it did not prevent the problem. The tires were not even the same brand each time. We had Yokohamas, Goodrich, they all wear the same way. The problem is quite clear its in the car. Suzuki will do whatever it takes to discredit your complaint or blame the tires. I am very surprised here in Canada that we really do not have a strong advocacy group (where are the young "Ralph Naders" of our society) that will truely look into to this consumer problem as I believe it falls into the Safety realm. I have talked to owners of the same car that have had blow outs with only 20k on the tires.
The last set of tires before the ones we have on now had one tire so bad the seller refused to rotate it as he said it would have been illegal as the tire was so badly worn. Sadly this car has a lot of positive features but we the only avenue you will have is to get rid of the car or spend a lot of cash to have it professionally looked at (not just a wheel alignment shop) by engineers to find the true cause of problem. It could be that its really unfixable unless redesigned. Good Luck.
