I consider the Ignis to be an excellent car in all respects except for the ride - which is uncomfortable on anything other than a perfectly smooth surface. Is there anything I can do to improve it? I've lowered the tyre pressures by 2lbs all round.

you could try increasing the profile of your tyres ie if you are running on 60 profile tyres , try 70 profile tryes , this will give you more sidwall flex making the car softer

I'm already running on 70 profile tyres - they're very thin and not much rubber is in contact with the road. I wondered if anyone had changed the dampers/shock absorbers (whatever they're called).

you may want to consider replacing all the suspension bushing, depending on your mileage. or you could upgrade to something like an energy suspension prothane bushings.
