Default Steel wheel problems

I bought this '06 Reno in February and it seems like i have been having problems with the rims and tires ever since I got it. I live in New England and two weeks after I bought the car, I hit a pothole and dented both rims on the same side. About a month after that there was a loose valve stem on one of the replaced tires, which I supposed was incidental. Then I was on the highway this week and popped the same tire. I can't tell yet wether it burst at the seam (its a small rip about an inch long where the tire meets the rim) or debris came off the highway and tagged it, but This is a lot of shit happening to one car. I have never had dented rims or tires going flat on me on the highway in my 8 years of driving, and now this all happens in a matter of months. Anyone know if this is an isolated thing? Like God punishing me for not getting alloys?

all steel wheels are kinda fragile. as are alloys in some cases... def. go aftermarket, I hit allot of huge holes with my moteggi sx7's and not so much as tire pressure loss.
