The main problems I have seen with Miatas are that people do not seem to know how to properly set up the suspension. I have personally driven one that was set up absolutely perfectly. Of course he had tons sunk into the suspension.
Once I start setting mine up, it will be all out. I plan on stitch welding the entire chassis, filling all rails and pillars with expanding foam, and reinforcing all stress areas of the frame. I will also be custom installing a full cage.
Another thing is with installing a 13B if done properly is that all the weight is placed behind the front axle and down low. Instantly that in itself makes the car handle great by effectively lowering the center of gravity and evening the weight distribution. Once everything is fabricated and installed and I have put put in some quality coilovers, I will have the car corner balanced. Of course all other suspension mods will be made, braces, strut bars, sway bars, etc. I don't believe I will make any engine mods for a while, just focus on suspension and tightening the car up.

I know the drivers of the miatas had the cars setup very well for roadracing, not drifting...but they still couldnt get the back ends out worth a damn. Two 240s setup for roadracing(again, not drift) with only 130hp were getting the rears out beautifuly. It could have been the drivers of the miatas but still I've seen several trying to drift and none have done well.

Its the front/back wieght distribution in the miatas 50/50. Not a hell of alot of power but in the twisties Miatas rule.
